Why Organic?

These days more and more people are becoming aware of how our food is produced.  To help them make an informed decision on where, what and who to buy from they are interested in receiving more information concerning both animal and human welfare.  Much of the food sold today has added colours, flavours and preservatives, most of the meat has been produced from animals fed on a cocktail of chemicals.

Appleby's Organic, Free Range Pork has nothing added and nothing taken away!

We are certified by the UK's leading organic body, The Soil Association.

A lot of people think that going organic is merely jumping on the bandwagon to make more money, if that were the case everybody would be organic. The Soil Association have very strict guide lines on how animals MUST be reared and crops be grown; they carry out spot checks and unannounced farm visits as well as a yearly inspection to ensure the highest standards are being met and maintained.

Rearing animals in a natural environment also means making sure they want for nothing. In simple terms, farming organically is turning the clock back to the days when animals were reared naturally without the routine use of antibiotics and growth promoters. We at Appleby's believe that our animals should be able to exhibit their natural behaviour where ever possible. Not every one is able to change their farming methods to organic due to the labour intensive regime required to rear animals outside.

Total trace ability and animal welfare guaranteed.
We at Appleby’s Organics sell only what we produce and rear ourselves. Many other food outlets source and sell products from a variety of producers outside their own farm therefore total trace ability and animal welfare cannot be monitored or guaranteed.

The Reality
Appleby's believe it is better to have lived a happy, natural life than to never have lived at all.

Our pigs enjoy all the freedom possible and in return we enjoy undoubtedly some of the finest Free Range Organic Pork on the market.

We have hopefully answered some of your questions but would like to answer all of them so please E-mail or telephone.
