Appleby's Organics are based in the heart of the beautiful Devon countryside close to Okehampton amidst broad leaved woodland

Having kept free range pigs on and off for many years we decided to go organic.  Appleby’s Organic Pig Enterprise began with the introduction of our first 12 Gilts (females) and a Welsh Boar.

The feed we use is supplied by a well respected and established West Country feed millers called Bowerings Animal Feeds.
The water we use for our pigs is from Appleby’s own private well, which is pure and chemical free.

We chose these female pigs (which originate from an ancient Chinese breed) for their docility and good mothering instincts.

Our boar was purchased from a Pedigree Rare Breed Breeder (and that's a mouthful!) 

As you can see, the end result is an excellent pork pig.

All pigs are bred, born and finished outside, their houses are filled with plenty of warm straw and they are free to dig to their hearts content - and dig they do!

In summer we provide wallows for all pigs to roll in and keep cool. Without actually seeing it you would not believe the excitement the pigs display when they see the water being topped up!
